Aproductions photo shoot marks Qatar Airways sponsorship of FC Barcelona

Madrid-based Aproductions organised a photo shoot in Barcelona to mark Qatar Airways’ sponsorship of top Spanish football team FC Barcelona. Shooting took place at the city’s Mediapark studio facility and had to be co-ordinated with a commercial that was shot at the same time.

“We needed to have a studio that had stages that worked for both film and photo necessities that were right next to each other and Mediapark was the best fit for this,” explained Cat Isakson of Aproductions: “Synchronising the players’ timings was the biggest challenge as we had only 15 minutes with each player. They came with make-up and wardrobe from the film shoot next door and we had to place them and get all the shots in that time.”

The players were shot separately and then stitched together digitally for the final stills image. Additional characters were shot in groups as there were fewer time restrictions.

Spain remains a popular filming location for commercials and in the last few months has hosted a series of high-profile spots for Volvo Trucks.

The Spanish mainland doesn’t yet offer a formal filming incentive, but is nevertheless attracting big-budget international productions that are securing tax credits through European Economic Interest Groupings. Many international productions also film in the Canary Islands, where a Special Zone Low-Tax Regime makes local filming cheaper.
