New series of TV drama Safe House to film in England’s Lake District

A second series of ITV’s drama Safe House will film on location in the Lake District in north-west England. The new four-part story will follow a married couple whose countryside guest house is also used by the police to shelter witnesses.

“From the outset the ambition was for Safe House to become a returnable series,” said Paula Cuddy, head of development with Eleventh Hour Films.

“[For] the characters of Robert and Katy, maintaining their cover and providing a place of safety for those in need of protection is a compelling idea. We’re thrilled to be returning to tell another complex and engaging story.”

“We had a tremendous reaction from the audience to [the first series of] Safe House,” added Steve November, director of drama at ITV.

“From the gripping story and compelling performances, we were delighted with every aspect of the production. With Ed Whitmore and Tracey Malone writing the scripts and Jill [Green] and Paula producing we know the new series will be in safe hands.”

The Lake District is renowned for its natural beauty and is becoming more popular as a filming location. A new film adaptation of the classic novel Swallows and Amazons – set in the Lake District of the late 1920s - started shooting locally over the summer.

“Secret Harbour Productions choosing to film in our part of the Lakes reminds visitors how wonderful it is and helps us to continue to look after it for everyone to enjoy,” said John Moffat, general manager for the National Trust in the south Lakes, in comments to the North West Evening Mail when the shoot was announced.
