US drama Music, War and Love filmed on location in Poland
Music, War and Love, an upcoming US drama about Polish life before and after the Second World War has been filmed in various parts of Poland.
Directed by Martha Coolidge (Sex and the City, The Twilight Zone) the series will focus on the relationship between two talented Polish musicians, Robert Pulaski (Leo Suter) and Rachel Rubin (Adelaide Clemens) as their lives are forced into change in the event of war.
According to a recent press release: “Łódź Film Commission... provides logistic support in Łódź. After the shoot in the city finishes, the production will move to Kraków and then to Berlin, London and New York. Altogether 56 filming days have been planned in Poland. The post-production will take place in the USA.”
While there are no incentives available for international productions, Poland does currently offers nine regional incentives, each providing support of up to 50% of a project’s budget. Co-production agreements with Polish companies do open up the possibility of accessing these incentives however. Non-repayable grants and refunds are also available to regional projects with a qualifying expenditure.
Poland has housed other high-end projects including Steven Spielberg’s Cold War drama Bridge of Spies, which filmed on location in Wroclaw, doubling for Berlin. Similarly, Bollywood action film Kick saw its filming take place in Warsaw.
Poland’s reputation as a prime location is set to expand with the recent news of a co-production agreement being signed between New Zealand and the Central European country. This agreement will pave the way for an influx of productions benefitting from incentives that were previously only available to local projects.
