Mr. Robot trades New York for New Mexico in season three shoot
The third season of USA Network’s critically acclaimed thriller, Mr. Robot, is now filming on location in Albuquerque, New Mexico. This will mark the first time that Mr. Robot, traditionally filmed exclusively in New York, will have left the East Coast to shoot elsewhere in the country.
During the production’s stay in New Mexico, roughly 75 members of local crew will be employed, in addition to 18 principal actors and 75 background actors.
New Mexico Film Office Director Nick Maniatis explains: "once again, New Mexico's incredible landscapes, unmatched workforce, and our powerful incentives are bringing good jobs to New Mexico. This is another great TV show that will have a tremendous economic impact as we continue to grow and diversify our economy.”
Produced by Anonymous Content and created by Sam Esmail, Mr. Robot follows Elliot Alderson (Rami Malek) as he joins a group of hackers with the intent of taking down the powerful E Corp conglomerate.
Malek scored a surprise win for his performance as Elliot during the 2016 Emmy Awards, receiving the accolade for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series.
The first two seasons of Mr. Robot were shot entirely within the state of New York, utilising such locations as Coney Island and Times Square.
New Mexico boasts one of the most competitive production incentives on the market. A wide variety of projects that incur at least one shoot day within the state can receive a tax credit of up to 30%.
The local incentive has attracted a plethora of production activity from such projects as the Coen Brothers’ The Ballad of Buster Scruggs and the comic book adaptation, Scalped.
