Lithuania raises production tax incentive to 30%
Lithuania will offer a 30% production tax incentive to fiction and TV films, documentaries and animations from 1 January 2019. Parliament has approved the incentive for a five year period, with 2023 being the final year.
Since the launch of a 20% incentive in 2014, Lithuania has positioned itself as a competing hub of audiovisual services.
During this period, 23 international films benefitted from the scheme and a number of high-end dramas including BBC’s War and Peace, Netflix’s Tokyo Trial and HBO’s Chernobyl chose Lithuania for significant portions of filming.
The upgraded incentive reflects the success of the previous scheme. In 2018 alone, the Lithuanian film production sector is expected to log a EUR 27 million total expenditure with EUR 5 million coming from local businesses.
The upgraded incentive is available to fiction and TV films, documentaries and animations with a total amount of eligible spend above EUR 43,000 that incur at least 80% of eligible production costs in Lithuania.
