Location filming for Ford’s Backbone of Britain took place on Wales’ Flintshire Bridge

The moody spot for Ford celebrates the people who use Ford's commercial vehicles that they class as the 'backbone of Britain'. The dramatic spot culminates in a fleet of Ford vehicles crossing the bridge.

Ford assess that “we know it’s not our vans alone that keep Britain running, it’s the people that drive them – you…from plumbers to plasters, engineers to electricians, we’re proud to serve those who serve our nation, with our new range of Ford Commercial Vehicles for 2019”.

Directed by Mark Molloy, Smuggler produced the spot for creative agency GTB. Electric Theatre Collective provided post production and VFX services to scale the fleet of vehicles seen on the road.

The cable-stayed Flintshire Bridge spans the Dee Estuary in North Wales. Daily traffic is estimated to be over thirteen hundred vehicles a day, acting as a vital 'backbone' of UK infrastructure. The production was granted permission to close the bridge for a nine-hour shoot in March which included aerial filming. According to local reports, the council granted access to the shoot which aligned with essential planned maintenance.
