Disney+ exclusive Lady and the Tramp filmed on location in Savannah, Georgia

Debuting on the brand new Disney+ streaming platform, The Lady and the Tramp is Disney’s latest live-action adaptation, remaking the 1955 classic cartoon.

The film follows two dogs, a house pet called Lady and the street mutt Tramp who meet and fall in love against all odds. Set in twenties New Orleans, the historic city of Savannah, Georgia was able to double for New Orleans, Louisiana. The city was transformed with candle lit streets and horse-drawn wagons for the Disney+ feature.

Directed by Charlie Bean (TRON: Uprising), Tessa Thompson (Westworld, Thor: Ragnorok) stars as the voice of Lady and Justin Theroux (The Girl on the Train, Bumblebee) as Tramp. Meanwhile, the casting team scoured the US for real dogs that fit the appearance of the animated characters.

Savannah has gained from the production boom taking place in Georgia, due to the states generous 30% production incentive. While much production in located in state capital of Atlanta, Savannah hosts its fair share of high end shoots. The city has hosted production for the highest grossing indie film of 2019 The Peanut Butter Falcon, Ang Lee’s Si-fi Action feature Gemini Man and the much anticipated Ford v. Ferrari.

In addition to the state-wide filming incentive, Savannah has a production incentive of its own, that provides a 10% cash rebates on qualified spend for feature films and television series. To qualify, feature films and TV pilots must have a minimum budget of USD2 million, spend 50% of shooting days within sixty miles of City Hall of Savannah. The main production office must be in Chatham County and the production must spend USD500,000 in the county. Other incentives apply for television and internet-distributed episodic productions.
