The series from Tarell McCraney, the Academy Award Winning writer and producer behind Moonlight tells the story of a young prodigy living in Florida who is looking for a way out of his poor neighbourhood in South Florida.

The first series of David Makes Man shot in Orlando in 2018 and was warmly received by critics. Although a second series has been announced, it has not been confirmed that the second series will continue to film in Florida.

Orlando won the production despite the fact that there are no financial incentives currently in place.

At the time, Orlando Film Commissioner Sheena Fowler told Orlando News: Amplifed “A project of this caliber demonstrates our strengths and assets as a production location. “With our superior sound stages, talented and experienced crew, abundance of lodging options, extremely supportive community, free one-stop-shop for any permitting needs and general ease of doing business in our region, Orlando was able to prove that the production game doesn’t have to be all about financial incentives”.

The first series was based at Universal Studios Florida where it used two 16,500 soundstages and various backlot locations.

Although there are no state-wide filming incentives currently in place, the Florida Entertainment Industry Sales Tax Exemption applies to qualified production companies sh, including commercial and reality TV.
