John Wick 4 to shoot in France

The Hollywood production is planning action heavy scenes in the French capital having secured support from France’s TRIP rebate scheme.

John Wick 4 marks one of the biggest US shoots to film in Paris since Covid-19. Other productions including Netflix’s Gray Man are heading to France as lockdown eases. Although some restrictions remain in place, the 9PM curfew that affects much of France does not apply to filming crews.

John Wick: Chapter 4 will see Keanu Reeves return to Berlin's Babelsberg Studios where he has recently been filming Matrix 4. reprise his role as a retired hitman seeking vengeance for the death of his beloved dog. The studio will host the production before it moves to on location filming in Paris for action packed sequences. New York and Japan will also feature as additional filming locations. Previous chapters of the John Wick saga have been set against the backdrops of Morocco, New York, Montreal and Italy.

Other largescale shoot set to film in France is Netflix feature film The Gray Man which will shoot at the Château de Chantilly near Paris.

Recent modifications to France's TRIP tax rebate now allows a  10% VFX-related Tax Rebate bonus, meaning that projects including a substantial amount of VFX may be eligible for a 40% Tax Rebate on all eligible expenses, including live-action shoots. To qualify projects must be works of fiction, include more than €2M in VFX-related eligible French expenses and pass a test. Live action only projects that qualify can access the 30% tax rebate for incoming productions. Qualifying expenditure must exceed EUR250,000 or 50% of production budgets must be incurred in France and live action films must shoot at least five days in France.
