Film Saudi offers 40% cash rebate scheme for incoming productions
The Saudi Film Commission has unveiled its new incentive programme: ‘Film Saudi.’ This scheme offers cash rebates worth up to 40%. Qualifiers for the new incentives include: featuring the Kingdom’s culture, history and people; showcasing the diverse selection of landscapes in Saudi Arabia; or recruiting Saudi crew and talent above and below the line. Incoming film producers who want to bring their next shoot to the Kingdom – whether partially or fully – are invited to apply.
“We are delighted to open applications for our cash rebate programme ‘Film Saudi’ and welcome productions to Saudi Arabia,” says Abdullah Al Eyaf, CEO of the Saudi Film Commission. “The film industry is rapidly accelerating as we continue to invest in training our local crews and developing our infrastructure to ensure we are in a position to support all productions. Incentivizing film productions will enable us to tap into the potential of our growing film industry, showcase our unique and breathtaking landscapes, and attract a diverse range of productions to the Kingdom.”
The country’s cinema industry is now the fastest growing in the Middle East, with streaming platforms attracted to the vast domestic market and its wealth of talented new. Over the last 18 months Saudi Arabia has provided the backdrop for three major Hollywood films: action thriller Kandahar filmed in the extraordinary landscape of AlUla, Rupert Wyatt’s historical epic Desert Warrior shot in Neom and the region of Tabuk, and the Russo Brothers’ crime drama Cherry shot in AlUla and the capital Riyadh.
Recent investments seem set to affirm Saudi Arabia’s status as world-class hub for production. The new ‘Film Saudi’ scheme will provide major incentives for local, regional, and international film producers who wish base their creative projects in the Kingdom. At the same time, the initiative will support the national screen sector, nurturing its development while allowing Saudi Arabia’s filmmaking scene to compete on the international stage.
