Drylab acquisition sets the tone for greener production practices
On 30 June, 2022, Drylab R&D A/S had been acquired by Media Tech SPAC plc. Drylab is a leading SaaS platform for film and television production founded by technologist Audun Valer and film producer Stein B Kvae. The technology will act as an on-set production tool and digital dailies platform. Positioned for growth, Drylab is expected to improve the efficiency and environmental consciousness of industry processes.
John Matani, CEO of Media Tech SPAC plc states: “Drylab was developed by filmmakers to develop systems and technology to assist their own filmmaking – we believe no other solution provides the same package of features.”
Increases in streaming platforms have led to higher figures in film and television production. This expands Drylab’s market from their successful presence in Norway and Sweden to a more global stage. Longstanding connections to Warner Bros, Paramount Pictures, and Universal support the reputability of the software service and its predicted growth.
In a world relying more on remote working, the software allows for interdepartmental communication to occur seamlessly offline. It also acts as a tool for on-set teams and key stakeholders to monitor activity during production and in post-production. This reduces the need for multiple paper-based processes, reducing overall generated waste.
“This deal will also enable the Drylab developers to spend more time improving the platform and developing new features to make films quicker, cheaper and greener to produce,” says Rick Senat, non-executive chairman of Media Tech SPAC plc. “We are very excited to embark on the next step on our mission to transform the film-making industry.”
With reported figures of 9.2 tonnes of CO2 produced from one hour of television, Drylab’s software is projected to significantly reduce this waste. Their contribution to reducing paper waste and CO2 emissions spearheads a greener approach to activity throughout production. As a result, the software will tackle issues revolving around environmental sustainability within the film and television industry from both an administrative and creative position.
