Netflix collaborates with the International Olympic Committee for new documentary

Netflix is set to release their new documentary The Redeem Team. Director Jon Weinbach captures the 2008 US Olympic Men’s Basketball Team victory in Beijing for the streaming platform. Executive Producers include Olympians Lebron James and Dwyane Wade.

“The Redeem Team represents the very best of what the Olympics are all about,” states Mark Parkman, General Manager of Olympic Channel Services. “This film will bring viewers directly inside that team and the Olympic Games Beijing 2008 by showcasing the personality and dynamics of a special group of superstars who came together as one to reclaim basketball supremacy on the biggest stage in sports.”

With Olympic footage and unfiltered behind-the-scenes material, The Redeem Team captures the efforts of the US Olympic Men’s Basketball Team towards winning their gold medal at the 2008 Beijing Olympics. Interviews with athletes Lebron James and Dwyane Wade, who serve a hand executive producing the documentary, as well as insight from coach Mike “Coach K” Krzyzewski, provide retellings from the day, allowing viewers to gain a first-hand perspective of the team's comeback following their prior performance at the Athens 2004 Olympics.

“In 2008, I played with heroes of mine, all stars, friends, and future teammates. Outside of winning and showing the world that we were still the most dominant, our other big challenge was changing the perception of what everyone thought about the NBA and USA Basketball,” commented Executive Producer and Olympian Dwyane Wade. “I’m excited for everyone to get an opportunity to go behind the scenes and see all the work that went into this iconic team — The Redeem Team!”

Producer, writer and filmmaker Jon Weinbach is at the helm of the project as director. The former Executive Producer and Executive Vice President of Mandalay Sports Media has leant his production skills to projects such as The Comedy Store, and Michael Jordan documentary The Last Dance. He has also had previous experience on the International Olympic Committees OTT platform The Olympic Channel as producer for nine of their documentaries.

Alongside James and Wade, Executive Producers include Frank Marshall, Mark Parkman, Mary Byrne, Yiannis Exarchos, Maverick Carter, Jamal Henderson, Phillip Byron of UNINTERRUPTED, Jon Weinbach and Mark Tollin who also executive produced for The Last Dance. The Redeem Team is an Olympic Channel, Kennedy/Marshall and Mandalay Sports Media Production in association with 59^th and Prairie Entertainment, UNINTERRUPTED, NBA Entertainment and USA Basketball. Netflix will globally premiere the film on 7 October 2022.
