Screen Queensland announces Courtney Gibson as new CEO
Screen Queensland announced the appointment of Courtney Gibson as the organisation’s newest Chief Executive Officer on 13 October 2022. Gibson will be bringing a wealth of knowledge from her experience as CEO for two other agencies and industry leadership roles.
“The Board looks forward to seeing the state’s thriving screen industry benefit from Ms Gibson’s leadership and guidance, further strengthening Queensland’s fine reputation as a destination of choice for the world’s leading filmmakers and producers,” commented Screen Queensland chair, The Honourable Roslyn Atkinson AO.
Gibson’s previous roles include her time as executive head of content creation and head of arts, entertainment and comedy at ABC, programming executive at Nine, commissioning editor of documentary at SBS, director of programming at Endemol Australia and managing director of Jungle Entertainment. In addition, Gibson served as CEO of Screen New South Wales and the South Australian Film Corporation.
“Queensland is an absolute powerhouse when it comes to screen production, and it’s a state that really has it all — leading local producers, post-production companies and games developers, longstanding and extremely successful international partnerships, highly skilled crews, spectacular locations and leading-edge studios up and down the state, all underpinned by the best incentives in Australia,” stated Gibson.
Gibson’s arrival to Screen Queensland on 17 October 2022 will be amidst a high for industry activity. Productions include Brouhaha Entertainment’s adaptation of Boy Swallows Universe for Netflix, Disney+ sci-fi series Nautilus, Legendary Pictures’ Godzilla vs Kong sequel, Bunya Productions’ Limbo series for ABC TV and action-thriller Land of Bad starring Russell Crowe and Liam Hemsworth with production services from Hoodlum Entertainment.
