A new studio facility is coming to The Bottle Yard

TBY2, a new studio facility is coming to Bristol’s The Bottle Yard. The opening ceremony tonight will bring together leading UK film and High-End TV producers, local crew and companies, along with regional and national partners and supporters to commemorate the studio’s expansion. Disney + Rivals is set to become the first booking for the brand new facility.

“The Bottle Yard Studios, our Hollywood in Hengrove, continues to go from strength-to-strength. Filming in Bristol is booming – testament to Channel 4’s decision to relocate to our city in 2018, commented Marvin Rees, Mayor of Bristol. “This year, the sector contributed almost £21 million to our economy. New productions by Disney+ and other major streamers and commissioners will only bolster our global growth. Shows like The Outlaws have looked and sounded like Bristol and TBY2 will help us punch above our weight in film and TV.”

The Bottle Yard Studios, owned and run by Bristol City Council, has provided its spaces to more that 70 film and television since their opening in 2010. The newest TBY2 second facility will offer three premium quality, fully sound proofed stages. The spaces, measuring at 20,000 sq ft, 16,500 sq ft and 7,000 sq ft, are less than a mile from the main branch.

Laura Aviles, Senior Film Manager of Bristol City Council, said: “It’s with a sense of immense pride that we introduce our new, sustainably designed Bottle Yard facility to our regional and national colleagues and partners, including the British Film Commission who have been a great supporter of our expansion plan. With Rivals for Disney+ confirmed as TBY2’s first high-end TV booking and a schedule of interest reaching well into 2024, the opening of these three new stages marks a new chapter in the success story of Bristol film and high-end TV production.

In addition to the expansive facilities on offer for production, additional ancillary spaces will be available for production offices, prop stores, costume and makeup, as well as breakout areas, totalling to approximately 82,000 sq ft. Funded by the Bristol Energy Cooperative, the construction of the facility has been done with sustainability in mind, with solar rooftops and overall environmentally friendly systems.

“I’m proud to have secured the funding for this state-of-the-art expansion during my first term as Mayor, delivering another 1,000 new jobs for Bristolians,” added Rees. “Thanks to City Leap and the community-owned solar panels on TBY2’s roof, this will surely be one of the greenest places to film anywhere in the world.”

The studios will first welcome Disney+’s eight-part saga Rivals, the television adaptation of Jilly Cooper’s novel. Direction and executive production of episodes 1 to 3 will be lead by BAFTA-nominated Elliot Hegarty, known for his work on Ted Lasso, Cheaters and Trying. Rivals is just the beginning of the slew of international projects set to take advantage of the state of the art facilities from the reputable studio name.
