Paramount+ announces cast for new series The Killing Kind
Paramount+ announced on 30 January the casting for new original UK drama series The Killing Kind. Based on the best-selling novel of the same name by Jane Casey, The series will be produced by Eleventh Hour Films. Shot on location at Bristol’s The Bottle Yard Studios and moving to London later this year, the new series will star Emma Appleton and Colin Morgan as the leading characters.
Emma Appleton said: “I’m delighted to be working with such a talented team on such a thrilling show. When I first read THE KILLING KIND script I was so intrigued by Ingrid and the twists and turns we take as the story goes on.”
Colin Morgan explained: “Getting the opportunity to explore a more dark and complex role with John Webster has been enlightening and such fun. Working with the brilliant Emma Appleton has already been such a highlight, along with the rest of the incredible cast. The story had me hooked from page one and I am looking forward to seeing it play out on screen.”
The story follows top-flight barrister Ingrid Lewis who finds a new challenge in client John Webster, a good-looking, successful and charismatic spanner in the works. Accused of harassment and stalking an ex-girlfriend, Webster seeks out the help of Lewis to defend him, but the two get a bit too close for comfort in their professional relationship. Not too happy when she tries to exit the controversial affair, the darker side of Webster appears and Lewis is left to pick up the pieces of her now imploded world. In the series. Lewis is rebuilding her life, but when Webster reappears, everything is at threat of being unravelled again.
Emma Appleton of Clique, The Witcher and Everything I Know About Love, will take on the role of Ingrid Lewis. Joining her is Colin Morgan, known for his roles on Merlin, Mammals and Humans. He will be taking on the part as the dubious John Webster. The cast also includes Elliot Barnes-Worrell from Jericho, Doctor Who, and Van Der Valk, as Ingrid’s ex-fiance Mark Orpen, Rob Jarvis from Emmerdale, Collateral, Silent Witness, as chief clerk at the legal chambers where she works, Tom Martins, Kerr Logan of Strike, North Sea Connection and Showtrail, as firm but caring policeman DS Luke Nash, Sara Powell from Unforgotten, Damned and Last Christmas, as Ingrid’s mentor and close friend, Belinda Grey and Nicholas Rowe from A Spy Among Friends and Rosaline taking the role as Belinda’s husband and head of Chambers, Angus Grey.
Executive Producers for the series are Paula Cuddy, Eve Gutierrez and Jill Green alongside author Jane Casey, lead director and writer Zara Hayes and writer Jonathan A.H Stewart. Sony Pictures Television will distribute THE KILLING KIND internationally. The series joins the expanding of Paramount +’s UK originals as well as being part of the streaming platform’s strategy to commission 150 originals by 2025.
