Amazon Prime Video to release first African original movie
Gangs of Lagos, Prime Video’s first African original movie, is set to be released on the streaming service on 7 April. The action crime-thriller, directed by Jáde Osiberu, follows a group of childhood friends navigating the complexities and dangers of their lives in Isale Eko, Lagos. Gangs of Lagos’ release is the display of Prime Videos commitment to its investment in Nigeria and the Nollywood film industry, and a dedication to telling thoughtfully made and authentic stories form the continent.
“I’m thrilled to be introducing audiences to this epic storyline and A-List talent from Nigeria with the launch of Gangs of Lagos,” said Jáde Osiberu. “It’s a great opportunity to elevate Nigerian stories on a global scale with Prime Video.”
Director and producer of the movie Osiberu recently brought her critically acclaimed crime-thriller Brotherhood to the platform as part of her exclusive deal with Prime Videos that also includes her production company Greoh Studios. For this latest venture, Osiberu is sticking to the familiar genre, telling the high octane story, this time with the help of a cast including Tobi Bakre, Adesua Etomi-Wellington, Chike Osebuka, Chioma Chukwuka, and Iyabo Ojo
