From UK rapper Little Simz to Dragon’s Den panel member Steven Bartlett, the newest British Airways safety video places many famous faces and airway crew members bringing wit and quintessential Britishisms to the otherwise mundane instructional. Brought about by creative studio Uncommon London, the newest video also displays the cabin crews new uniform designed by Ozwald Boateng.
Following the announcement of his new collection for the British Airways cabin crew, Boateng commented: “Although the airline has a strong heritage, it was imperative to support in creating a fresh narrative of change and transcendence, while remaining timeliness.” This same energy is present in the latest iteration of the safety video for the airline. From fish and chips to conversations about the weather, and Steven Bartlett blowing kisses to his mum over the phone, the new video is a comical, relatable and high energy rendition of the short clip and demonstration we are all guided to watch before we take off.
Not only situated in the plane itself, and the usual hectic nature of putting away hand luggage and shuffling into seats, the video also features on ground airport crew members exclaiming their assigned instructions. Joining them is a lineup of familiar faces such as the newest Doctor Who Ncuti Gatwa advising on seatbelt usage as he is being fitted for a belted outfit himself, and tennis champion and British Airways ambassador Emma Raducanu packing away her carry on.
“We have all sat through safety demonstrations before, so we knew we needed to create something different that would capture attention and was totally in line with our British Original positioning,” commented British Airways chief customer officer Calum Laming. “We wanted this to be a real celebration of originality and for us, it is our people who – together with where we’re from – make us unique. That’s why it was important for us to hero so many of our amazing colleagues doing what they do each and every day for our customers and for each other.
