Indiana Jones travels to the UK, Italy and Morocco for his final adventure

Hollywood star Harrison Ford reprises his role as mystery solving debonair in the upcoming release of Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny. The final instalment of the franchise shot across England, Scotland, Italy and Morocco last year, with the trailer capturing the recognisable sites of the respective locations painted with true Indy flare. Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny is set to premiere at Cannes Film Festival 2023.

As Cannes Film Festival returns once again for a period of great filmic displays, Hollywood will be out in full force. This year, franchise returnee Indiana Jones will bring star Harrison Ford back to the high octane adventures and suspense filled mysteries. After 15 years, the new film sees Jones thrust into yet another escapade, this time alongside his goddaughter played by Fleabag’s Phoebe Waller-Bridge. The two go up against main antagonist and former Nazi Jürgen Voller, played by Mads Mikkelsen.

From burning castles to open field set bike rides, the use of location in the upcoming release emphasises the climactic narrative that will see the action hero donning his signature fedora for the last time. Shot across the UK, including Bamburgh castle and  North Yorkshire Moors Railway, Glasgow Glencoe in Scotland, Italy and Morocco. Dressed up in American fanfare, the streets of Glasgow’s city centre featured in the trailer, showing the juxtaposition between the festive parade setting and the tension of the bike riding characters. Unrecognisable the city centre was transformed into a 1960’s New York spectacle.

Whilst George Lucas and Steven Spielberg will not be taking on their former roles as writer and director for this upcoming release, they will serve as executive producers. James Mangold takes to the helm of the fifth instalment, drawing inspiration from Indiana Jones classic Raiders of the Lost Ark. As the first of the franchise not to be led by originator Spielberg, the pressure was high for the upcoming flick, especially after critiques of the preceding instalment. But with Spielberg himself commenting that he thought he was the only one able to make these films, success for the final chapter is highly probable.

"I'm thrilled to be starting a new adventure, collaborating with a dream team of all-time great filmmakers,” Mangold gushed in a press release. “Steven, Harrison, Kathy, Frank, and John are all artistic heroes of mine. When you add Phoebe [Waller-Bridge], a dazzling actor, brilliant creative voice and the chemistry she will undoubtedly bring to our set, I can't help but feel as lucky as Indiana Jones himself.
