Location Scout Beth Tate to receive LMGI Trailblazer Award
Yesterday, esteemed location scout Beth Tate, was announced as this year’s recipient of the Trailblazer Award for the 10th annual LMGI Awards. Honoured for her well-respected career and contributions to projects such as Twilight and Beverly Hills 90210, Tate has also been a continued supporter of the Location Managers Guild International. This year’s ceremony will take place on 23 August.
“The LMGI is extremely honored to recognize Beth Tate as one of its founding forces. She has been supporting location professionals over the past two decades and is most deserving to be recoginized with this year’s LMGI Trailblazer Award,” said LMGI president John Rakich and supervising location manager Robin Citrin.
Tate’s involvement with the LMGI spans back to it’s conception with an exhibit she co-produced called “In the Zone: Los Angeles Through the Eyes of Location Scouts” that gave attendees a glimpse into the work of location professionals and their significance in production. Following her studies at the University of Texas, she was hired by a local PBS affiliate in electrical, sound and set decoration, which led to her working as an electrician on the Norman Lear show All in the Family. In addition her time spent making her own films, including China Lake, Tate has worked with recognised filmmakers such as David Giler, Sam Peckinpah, William Friedkin, Michael Tolkin, Danny DeVito, Danny Boyle and Stuart Cornfeld, among many others
The LMGI Trailblazer Award has recognised a number of individuals who work, efforts and innovations continue to elevate the status of location professionals, including last year’s recipient Red Nation Celebration Institute. Winners are selected for the following categories: Contemporary Film, Period Film, Contemporary TV, Period TV, TV Serial Program/ Anthology/Limited Series, Commercials, and Film Commissions. In addition to the Trailblazer Award, honorary Awards include the Humanitarian, Lifetime Achievement, and Eva Monley Award.
