Steven Spielberg to receive Eva Monley honour at LMGI Awards
Adding to their list of honourees for the 10th annual LMGI Awards, the guild announced Steven Spielberg as their Eva Monley Award recipient. The award-winning director, producer and writer will be celebrated for his significant contribution to the world of motion pictures on 26 August at The Eli and Edythe Broad Stage.
“Steven Spielberg is a giant in our industry. His work has touched, inspired, and entertained millions of moviegoers and filmmakers from around the world. His films are timeless. and his influence on the motion picture industry is immeasurable. We are so proud to be able to honor him as this year’s Eva Monley Award recipient,” said Rakich.
A household name in the film industry, Spielberg is a pioneer of the modern blockbuster motion picture, will a sprawling catalogue of iconic projects including Jaws, Schindler’s List, Jurassic Park, The Colour Purple and a host more. The Eva Monley Award is reserved for those who have made and extraordinary contribution to the art and craft of filmmaking through their commitment to real locations, and Spielberg has certainly proven that with his larger than life projects that retain a thoughtfulness in how he build environments for each narrative.
Spielberg currently presides as chairman of Amblin Partners, a corporate descendent of DreamWorks, SKG, which he founded in 1994. The all round filmmaker is a three-time Academy Award winner, Kennedy Centre Honouree and a recipient of the Irving G. Thalberg Awards from the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences. He also received the Presidential Medal of Freedom in 2015 from President Barack Obama.
Other honourees for the LMGI Awards Gala include LMGI founding member Beth Tate (Twilight, Beverly Hills 90210) who will receive this year’s Trailblazer Award, veteran location manager Dow Griffith (Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, Jumanji, Proof of Life) receiving this year’s Lifetime Achievement Award, and The Creative Coalition who will receive the LMGI Humanitarian Award.
