Netflix gives first glimpse of Zack Snyder’s Rebel Moon
Netflix released the trailer and first images for Zack Snyder’s first instalment of Rebel Moon. The space sci-fi film follows on from Snyder’s success with the streaming service with Army of the Dead. The feature, starring Kingsman: The Secret Service and Star Trek Beyond actress Sofia Boutella, wrapped filming last December in California.
The first of the promised two-parter, Rebel Moon: A Child of Fire will hit streaming screens on 22 December, 2023, exploring the story of the threats facing a colony on the edge of the galaxy whose fate lies in the hands of Boutella’s Kora and other trained fighters at her side. Originally pitched as a Star Wars movie, the lifelong fan of the franchise has to take his plans elsewhere when LucasFilm was acquired by Walt Disney in 2012. Many years later, the epic flick will be produced by Snyder alongside Deborah Snyder and her production company Stone Quarry, with Netflix.
From the 3 minute teaser trailer released on 23 August, fans got a glimpse at the climactic battle sequences and heart pounding twists that Rebel Moon promises. With grandiose set designs and desertscapes welcoming carefully choreographed fights and staggering explosions, Californian filming sites located in Los Angeles, Santa Clarita, and Lone Pine, to name a few. Split into two, Rebel Moon’s second instalment will continue the intergalactic journey on 19 April, 2024.
Alongside Boutella, Rebel Moon is packed with acting powerhouse, such as Oscar-winner Anthony Hopkins who will voice sentient robot Jimmy, Djimon Hounsou as General Titus, Ed Skrein taking on the role of Regent Balisarius, Charlie Hunnam as Kai, Ray Fisher and Cleopatra Coleman as Darrian and Devra Bloodaxe, Michiel Huisman as Gunnar, Jena Malone in the role of Harmad, Staz Nair as Tarak, Doona Bae as Nemesis, as well as E.Duffy, Fra Fee, Stuart Martin, Corey Stoll, Cary Elwes, Alfonso Herrera, Rhian Rees and Ray Porter.
