Screen Queensland launches emerging crew training programme

In partnership with Essential Screen Skills’ Film Intensive Script to Screen programme, Screen Queensland will support 30 emerging screen practitioners from North and Far North Queensland. Open to participants 18 to over, skills training and credits will be awarded across a number of focuses. The in person training will take place in Cairns for select days form October 2023 to July 2024.

 

With the participation of highly skilled and respected local industry professionals in the programme, selected tutees will gain expertise across camera, costume, lighting, production and locations. Opportunities during the training period will include a series of workshops, intensives ending with the production of three new short films. Through the hands on experiences, they will also be able to generate credits leading them to a career in the screen industry.

 

 

Phase one of the programme will take place across 3weekends (21-22 October, 4-5 November and 18-19 November) followed by phase 2 will participants split into 2 groups for a shooting block held across 4-8 March 2024 and 13-18 May 2024. The programme will conclude with a screening day planned for 19 July 2024 that will show the skills acquired during the series of sessions and practical experiences.

 

Prioritising the diversification of the industry and extending opportunities to underrepresented communities in the local screen sector, 10 placements on the programme will be reserved for Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander people. The start of the programme will also coincide with the new Screen Queensland Studios, Cairns development providing new job opportunities for those looking to carve their career path in the screen industry.
