A24 release trailer for Nicholas Cage starrer Dream Scenario

As the first collaboration between the independent film studio and the actor, Nicholas Cage is set to lead eclectic horror comedy Dream Scenario. From writer/director Kristoffer Borgli and producer Ari Aster, the film places Cage as professor Paul Matthews and his unexplained cameos in other people’s dreams. The film, which premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival will hit theatres on 10 November.

 

With filming beginning in December 2022, production for Dream Scenario took place in Toronto. Set against the suburban world of “hapless family man” Paul Matthews, the mundane world was created with the help of Toronton-based production designer Zosia Mackenzie through previous collaborator and producer Jacob Jaffke who worked with her on Whit Stillman’s Damsels in Distress.

 

 

Joining Cage on the cast is The Adults’ Michael Cera, Mare of Eastown actorJulianne Nicholson, Dylan Baker of Hunters, The Goldbergs’ Tim Meadows, Ubreakable Kimmy Schmidt actor Dylan Gelula, Kater Berlant of Sorry to Bother You, Slip’s Lily Gao, Noah Lamanna of Star Trek: Strange New Worlds. Krista Bridges of Narc, Doc’s Paula Boudreau, Marnie McPhail from The Edison Twins, Kaleb Horn of The Kid Detective and Closet Monster’s Sofia Banzhaf.

 

 

 

Taking to the helm of the project is Sick of Myself director Kristoffer Borgli, who also served as a writer for the film. A24 resident Ari Aster will serve as producer for Dream Scenario, bringing along his horror expertise from previous projects such as Midsommar and Beau is Afraid. Also joining the crew are cinematographer Banjamin Loeb (Pieces of a Woman),  production designer Zosia Mackenzie (Infinity Pool), art director John O'Regan (Firestarter), art director Brittany Morrison (Possessor), and costume designer Natalie Bronfman (The Handmaid's Tale).
