Bristol and Somerset shot thriller Truelove gives first look
The first images of Channel 4’s new thriller Truelove have been released. Produced by Clerkenwell Films, the project shot last year in Somerset and Bristol. Starring Lindsay Duncan and Clarke Peters, the show is set for release early next year.
Duncan (Birdman, About Time) and Phil (The Wire, Da 5 Bloods) take on the roles of recently retired childhood sweethearts Phil and Ken, who reconnect in their 70’s after years apart. Reuniting with a group of friends at a funeral and making a drunken pact, the group enter into a whirlwind of events. Other cast members include Sue Johnston (The Royale Family) as Marion, Karl Johnson (Mum) as Tom, Peter Egan (Downton Abbey) as David and Kiran Sonia Sawar (Muredered by My Father) as Ayesha.
The six part series travelled to locations across Bristol and Somerset for filming. In Bristol, the production were spotted taking over a city centre restaurant as well as throughout the rest of the city. Filming in Somerset took full advantage of the coastal settings, travelling to Clevedon, the seaside town of Burnham-On-Sea, Berrow and Brean.
Using a core cats in their 70’s, Truelove defies all expectations of having older characters on screen, featuring irreverent humour, intense romances, and climactic twists. Truelove is produced by Clerkenwell Films (The End of the F***ing World) for Channel 4, commissioned by Channel 4’s Head of Drama, Caroline Hollick and Commissioning Editor, Rebecca Holdsworth. Executive producers at Clerkenwell Films include Emily Harrison, Andy Baker, Petra Fried and Charlie Langdell. Charlie Covell and Iain Weatherby also serve as executive produce. Chloë Wicks (The Flatshare, On the Edge: Cradled) and Carl Tibbetts (The Tunnel, Black Mirror) will direct and Alex Walsh-Taylor (Cheaters, Lovesick) will produce. BBC Studios, which wholly owns Clerkenwell Films, is distributing the series internationally.
