Neon brings Reggaeton to Netflix
Miami’s music scene comes to the screen in Netflix’s Neon. Co-created by executive producers Shea Serrano and Max Searle, who also serves as showrunner, the eight part series follows the journey of three friends making it through the challenges of the music industry. Reggaetón star Daddy Yankee, also serves as executive producer on the show, which is set for release on 19 October.
Neon will follow the lives of three friends who make the move from a small town in Florida to the larger than life Miami. With hopes to make the rise in the world of Reggaetón, the show tracks the ups and downs of the dream chasing trio as they face the realities of the music scene. The show’s star trio includes Tyler Dean Flores as Santi, Emma Ferreira (Unstable) as his manager Ness and Jordan Mendoza (Kaleidoscope) as Felix. Insecure’s Courtney Taylor will take on the role of Mia, an A&R rep who takes an interest in Santi.
Shot on location in Miami, the show draws on the musical essence of the city, furthered by its recruiting of esteemed musical talents behind the soundtrack. Grammy Award-winning reggaetón producers Tainy, Lex Borrero and Ivan Rodriguez serve as executive music producers, writing an producing original songs for the series. Music supervisors will also include One Six of Neon 16, Ntertain ,and Joe Rodriguez and Javier Nuno of Indice.
Journalist, former teacher and author of The Rap Year Book, takes serves as executive producer for the show alongside Searle, Scooter Braun, James Shin, Scott Manson for SB Projects and Anne Clements. Other cast members include Santiago Cabrera as Oscar, Jordana Brewster as Gina, Genesis Rodriguez as Isa, Zack Fox as Zale, Jhayco as Javier Luna and Villana as herself.
