Feature film I’ll Be Gone in June set to start production in New Mexico
The New Mexico Film Office announced today that feature film I’ll Be Gone in June is set to commence production in the state. Directed by Katharina Rivilis (Triangle of Sadness) and produced by Léa Germain (Paris Texas), the film sees German exchange student Franky navigating the highs and lows of small town New Mexico life.
“We’re so excited to see this European co-production coming to Las Cruces and their story come to life,” stated Keagan Karnes with Inspirado TV.
Witnessing a high performance last year with production spend of USD 9.8 million and activity despite the strike action, New Mexico is in demand. This year shows no difference as the state’s film office have announced the impending arrival of feature film production I’ll Be Gone in June.
Following 16 year old Franny, a German exchange student seeking the American dream from New York or California, I’ll Be Hibe in June sees the teenager navigating small town life in New Mexico instead. Finding a soul mate in melancholic Elliot, however, Franny must make the most of her time before she is off again.
Taking to the helm of the project is Katherine Rivilis, known for her work on 2022 Palm d’Or recipient Triangle of Sadness. Alongside her, Léa Germain will take on the role as producer. Set in New Mexico, the film will make use of the sprawling desert landscapes of the state, as well as its locally specific architecture.
With projects such as Better Call Saul and Stranger Things under their belt, New Mexico is no stranger to large scale productions coming across their lands. As a result, their investment into local talent has reflected this influx of productions. For the March shoot of I’ll Be Gone in June, the production is set to employ over 50 New Mexicans, including 25 resident crew members, 22 resident principal actors, and 10 resident background talent.
