Guillermo del Toro’s Frankenstein adds Jacob Elordi to the cast

Mexican filmmaker Guillermo del Toro is set to bring is version of Mary Shelley’s famed character to Netflix, enlisting the help of a star-studded cast. In addition to Oscar Isaac and  scream queen Mia Goth, Netflix revealed today that Jacob Elordi will be joining as Frankenstein’s monster. Del Toro will write and direct the project, as well as producing alongside J. Miles Dale. Filming is set to commence February 2024.

 

Australian born actor Jacob Elordi has truly taken off, bouncing off his complex role as Nate Jacob’s in HBO’s Euphoria, to the contradicting roles of Elvis in Sofia Coppola’s Priscilla and Emerald Fennel’s unpredictable Saltburn all in the same year. With no sign of stopping, Elordi was announced today to be joining famed filmmaker Guillermo del Toro’s iteration of Frankenstein. Taking over from Andrew Garfield who was original attached to the project, Elordi will take on the role of the iconic character from Mary Shelley’s 19th century novel.

Del Toro, who will be writing and directing for the film, will be joined by past producing partner on Netflix’s Cabinet of Curiosities, J. Miles Dale. A long time coming, Del Toro will begin filming for Frankenstein next month, revealing nothing as of yet into the what can be expected from his version. His upcoming venture with the streaming platform comes successfully of the back of his Best Animated Feature Oscar win for stop animation project Pinocchio, as well as other projects including anthology series Cabinet of Curiosities, and animated films Trollhunters: Rise of the Titans and Trollhunters: Tales of Arcadia.

 

Joining Elordi are Academy Award-winning actor Christoph Waltz, All Quiet on the Western Front actor Felix Kammerer, Lars Mikkelsen from The Witcher, David Bradley, who also starred I Del Toro’s Pinocchio, and Sweet Tooth actor Christian Convey.
