MIPTV confirms move to London from 2025

After months of speculation, Cannes based market MIPTV have confirmed their presence in London starting from 2025. Running alongside their London screening in February, the event will be held at the Savoy Hotel in the city as well as screening venue IET London, Savoy Place. Featuring screenings, networking events, meetings and a conference programme, the event will build on the increasing screen sector based Q1 activity.

“The creation of MIP London is a direct result of clear and evidenced market factors,” said Lucy Smith, Entertainment Division Director, RX France. “There is a continued appetite for a global content market in the first half of the year. MIP London will not only alleviate a busy events calendar but will provide an additional entry point for international companies to gather in London at the same time.”

With increased competition from industry events such as Content London and French based TV festival Series Mania, MIPTV have faced the issue of declining attendance for years. Whilst the fall event of MIPCom maintains its popularity, for many visiting studios and production companies, the worth of second trip to Cannes is called into question. Breathing some life into the RX France organized event schedule, MIP London is set for the capital city in February 2025.

Central to the conversations of organisers RX France, MIPLondon will be free for buyers, shifting away from the traditional MIPTV market structure. Whilst a smaller event, hosting only 1300 people at the Savoy in comparison to Cannes’ Palais which hosts an impressive 30,000, the London based presence for MIP takes full advantage of the momentum of other industry driving events during the Q1 calendar such as the London TV Screenings, launched in 2020 with the support of London-based distributors All3Media International, Banijay Rights, eOne, Fremantle and ITV Studios.

Located on The Strand, surrounded by iconic London locations, key film based locations such as the Bafta in Piccadilly, and stretches of screening venues in Bloomsbury and Soho, the MIPTV London move is a lucrative one. As the UK rolls ahead on the wheels of the Spring Budget changes and the promises of more to come, the capital is set to become a business centre for the screen industry, and this recent addition is just the start.
