Amazon’s Fallout to film second season in California
Post apocalyptic series Fallout which is set to debut on Prime Video, has announced that the second season will move to California for filming of it’s second season. This move will allow the production to take advantage of the state’s USD 25 million tax credits which has been used by projects including Ryan Murphy’s Dr Odyssey on ABC and Grotesquerie on FX.
Fallout, based on the popular game franchise, comes from the minds of Westworld creators Jonathan Nolan and Lisa Joy. Based on the post-apocalyptic video game from Bethesda Studios, the series will be set in Los Angeles where a nuclear decimation has forced citizens to live in underground bunkers to protect themselves from radiation, mutants and bandits. Filming for the first season took place predominantly in New York with some scenes shot in Utah. But taking advantage of California’s substantial incentive, filming for the second season will take place in the sunshine state.
With a budget of USD 153 million, the project marks the largest of the shows announced on Monday to have received USD 152 million in tax incentives from The California Film Commission on Monday. Amongst the dozen that have received the incentives are Ryan Murphy’s Dr Odyssey on ABC and Grotesquerie on FX, as well as NCIS: Origins, a prequel to the longstanding franchise premiering on CBS. The tax incentive has seen success in attracting projects that have started filming in other states or overseas with the 25% tax credit for qualified expenditure, as well as an additional 20% for subsequent seasons.
The state thus far has awarded USD330 million with a 57% to 43% breakdown for television and film respectively. Amazon was also awarded USD 14.6 million for its untitled Task Force show, with Warner Bros. also receiving USD 20.2 million for Latitude and USD 12.2 million for The Pitt starring Noah Wyle set in Pittsburgh.
