Mountain Dew shoot in Chile
Mountain Dew capture all of the outdoorsy adventure in their new commercial shot in Chile. With a cast kitted out in Mountain Dew Outdoor Gear, a range of scenes see the refreshing beverage always in reach of those quad biking, jet skiing and mountain biking through the Chilean landscapes. Directed by Cameron Goold, the project is led by production company Farm League for Motive agency and serviced by Jacaranda Films.
During the two day shoot, the production team shot across a diverse array of locations, all a mere 2 hours outside of Chile. The first day took place at Lake Rapel, a go to site for various activities like camping, fishing, boating and water sports, making it the perfect backdrop for the adventure filled commercial film. On the second day, filming took place in the Cajón del Maipo area.
“Located just southeast of Santiago is a stunning canyon carved by the Maipo River. It offers activities such as hiking, horseback riding, mountain biking, and even white-water rafting,” commented Mauro Groisman of Jacaranda Films. “The opening shot was in that area, same for the hiking, biking, waterfall and camping scene.”
The commercial is a laden with a high octane energy, from the sounds of the quad bike revving, the rush of the jet ski across the water, and the crisp cracking of the Mountain Dew can. With the action shots dominating the film, the team had a long list of logistical measures in place. Groisman made note of the jet ski scenes which made use of an auxiliary boat that carried the camera crew, DP and director and where the jet ski was shot from. A housing for the camera was used for underwater shots, along with jet ski rigging.
“We used the same rigging for the quad and the biking scenes,” Groisman added. “Drone shots were done during the 2 shoot days.”
Although Chile has no incentive in place, the choice to film there was an easy one for the production team due to the capabilities of the local crew, and the nearby major city of Santiago providing modern infrastructure, transportation networks and other amenities for filming. With the help of production service company Jacaranda Films, whose expertise cover a large portion of South America, the US bodies at the helm of the project were able to get the guidance needed for the unfamiliar terrains.
Groisman added: “It was a great and adventurous project embarked with a skeleton crew. Despite the small team, we conquered rugged terrain, weathered elements, and captured every moment with creativity and teamwork.”
