Netflix Series ERIC films in New York and Budapest
Crime drama ERIC is set for release on Netflix on 30 May. The Benedict Cumberbatch, Gaby Hoffman and McKinley Belcher III starrer is set in 1980’s New York, backdropping the emotional narrative of a father who faces the turmoil of when his nine year old son disappears. Capturing the authenticity of the state, filming took place in New York, as well as travelling to Budapest.
Set in 1980’s New York, filming in fact took place in the state to capture the scenic authenticity as well as Budapest, Hungary, known for its doubling of cityscapes, wrapping up in April 2023. Comprising of 6 episodes, the limited series is created and written by BAFTA and Emmy Award-winner Abi Morgan (The Hour, The Iron Lady, The Split). Alongside Cumberbatch as Vincent is Gaby Hoffman as Cassie, McKinley Belcher III as lead detective Ledroit, and Ivan Howe as Edgar.
The Morgan created ERIC is an emotional thriller that follows the desperation of a father, well known puppeteer Vincent, when he discovers that his nine year old son, Edgar, has gone missing on his way to school. Struggling to cope with the loss, Vincent grow attached to his son’s drawing of a blue monster puppet ERIC. Convinced that is he can get this image on television that his son would come home, the narrative unravels with Vincent seeping deeper into destructive and delusional behaviour, and the blue monster as his only ally.
Lucy Forbes (This Is Going To Hurt, The End of the F***ing World) serves as director for the series. Morgan, Cumberbatch, and Forbes executive produce alongside Jane Featherstone (Chernobyl, This Is Going to Hurt) and Lucy Dyke (The Split, Black Mirror), with Holly Pullinger (This Is Going to Hurt, Don’t Forget the Driver) producing. Eric is produced by Sister (Chernobyl, This Is Going to Hurt, Landscapers) and co-produced by Little Chick (The Split).
