Quentin Dupieux's new comedy to open the 77th Festival de Cannes
Quentin Dupieux's latest film Le Deuxième Acte (The Second Act) is set to open the 77th edition of Festival de Cannes on 14 May 2024. The director, screenwriter and musicians comedy will premiere on the Croisette, presented Out of Competition. The four part comedy will be released in French cinemas on the same day.
Starring Léa Seydoux, Vincent Lindon, Louis Garrel, Raphaël Quenard, and Manuel Guillot, Dupieux’s latest film follows Florence and David, the man she is madly in love with, and her attempt to introduce him to her father Guillaume. However, David is not attracted to Florence and tries to divert her attention on his friend Willy. In the absurd nature of the filmmaker, the four characters meet in a restaurant in the middle of nowhere as their interlinked connections unravel.
Dupieux’s filmography subverts all traditionalisms of film, with projects such as Steak, Rubber, Wrong Cops, Reality, Mandibles and Incredible but True. With Quenard returning to the directorial leadership of Dupieux, he brings his past experiences working on Mandibles, Smoking Causes Coughing and Yannick. The star studded cast also includes prominent French acting stars including Alain Chabat, Benoît Poelvoorde, Jean Dujardin, Adèle Exarchopoulos, Léa Drucker, Benoît Magimel, Anaïs Demoustier, Vincent Lacoste, Gilles Lellouche, Édouard Baer, and Pio Marmaï.
The Opening ceremony for the 77th edition of the festival will be broadcast live on France Télévisions and Brut. with Dix Percent (Call My Agent!) actress and comedian Camille Cottin serving as master of ceremony. Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga will also make an Out of Competition splash this year with its world premiere on 15 May. This year’s jury presidency will be take on by filmmaker Xavier Dolan.
