PGGB and Sky Studios Elstree to host Sustainability Behind the Lens
The second edition of Sustainability Behind the Lens has been announced, held by the Production Guild of Great Britain in association with Sky Studios Elstree and supported by The Generator Project. An open day for all industry professionals, the full day event offers the opportunity to network with green technology suppliers. Sustainability Behind the Lens will take place on 6 June at Sky Studios Elstree.
“This event was established to give crew on the ground the opportunity to come and learn about new technology first hand,” commented PGGB Sustainability Committee head Amelia Price. “If we want our team members to adopt new ways of working, we need to support them, and our suppliers by connecting everyone together so that we can really learn from each other with practical solutions.”
As a pioneer for green production in the global studio landscape, Sky Studios Elstree is an optimal place for Sustainability Behind the Lens to take place. Scoring an Outstanding score of 95% on the BAFTA ALBERT Studio Sustainability Standard for 2023/24, the studios are setting mark for green facilities in the UK and global production sphere. The studios are also powered by 100% renewable energy which mostly comes from the 3 acres of solar panels across the rooftops, in addition to rainwater harvesting, LED lighting, EV charging points and an all electric operations vehicle fleet.
Noel Tovey, Managing Director, Sky Studios Elstree added: “Sustainability has always been at the heart of everything we do at Sky Studios Elstree. It’s great to be recognised by BAFTA albert as the world’s most sustainable film and TV studio following our first full year of operation. We’re excited to continue to partner with major film and TV productions to give them a world-class facility, all while reducing our impact on the environment.”
Supporting the event is The Generator Project, a collaboration between film and television crews, production companies, film offices, and equipment suppliers who want to see a speedy journey towards an energy efficient and lower carbon future. There are already 20 companies signed up for the event including CAMA, Location One, Neptune Sustainability, Olio, Sunbelt Rentals and Supply 2 Location.
