LMGI Awards to honour Bill Bowling with Trailblazer Award

The Location Managers Guild International (LMGI) Awards announced today that location manager Bill Bowling is set to receive the Trailblazer Award at the 11th annual ceremony on 24 August 2024. Involved with projects such as Jupiter Ascending and Cloud Atlas, Bowling’s receipt of the award celebrates over five decades of work in the production industry. The awards ceremony will take place at The Wallis Annenberg Centre for the Performing Arts in Beverly Hills, California.

"We are thrilled to present the LMGI Trailblazer Award to Bill Bowling, a true pioneer in the field,” said LMGI president, John Rakich. “Bill’s dedication and vision has inspired countless professionals to push the boundaries of creativity and excellence internationally."

Bowling began his career working as a location professional on the 1970’s hit Barnaby Jones. After five years, he transitioned to film, moving from low-budget projects to high-profile works such as The Fisher King, Robin Hood, Men in Tights, Beverly Hills Cop, The Horse Whisperer and The Insider, as well as 2015 Netflix series Sense8, which filmed in eight countries in its first season. As an enthusiastic traveller, Bowling’s location prowess saw his talents put to work at Warner Bros. as a Worldwide Location executive, advising on international productions, as well as 35 years at a number of Hollywood studios. He has also spent time as an advisor to The Location Guide and the AFCI.

Over his career, Bowling has embarked on journeys to over 85 countries, exploring and securing some of the most unique and challenging filming locations. With such vast experience, Bowling reaches the requirements of the Trailblazer Award, which seeks to honour to individuals who have made significant contributions to the art of location scouting and management. Bowling is also a founding member of the LMGI, having helped create the organisation and continued support of its efforts. The location manager joins a stellar list of honourees for this year’s LMGI Awards, including Sue Quinn who will receive the Lifetime Achievement Award.
