M. Night Shyamalan’s latest flick shoots in Ontario
Trap, the latest thriller from acclaimed filmmaker M. Night Shyamalan made its premiere in US theatres yesterday. Set in the chaos of a pop stars concert, the film shot across a number of Ontario, Canada locations, including the FirstOntario Centre and Downtown Milton. The film stars Josh Hartnett as the serial killer father and Ariel Donoghue as his daughter.
As seen by the trailer, the concert venue is the main setting for the upcoming Trap. Although set in Philadelphia, filming in fact took place in Canada. Home to many performances over the years, FirstOntario Centre and Toronto’s infamous Rogers Centre provided the perfect backdrops for the fictional concert and ploy to capture the serial killer.
Described as “a perfect trailer” by a fan on social platform X, Shyamalan’s Trap is expected to welcome back the filmmakers usual affinity for unexpected twists and turns. Whilst the trailer did reveal that Hartnett, a hidden serial killer, has unknowingly walked into a trap, in the form of a concert for his daughter’s favourite artist, much of the plot is still to be uncovered. For it’s Friday premiere across the US, Trap rake in an impressive USD 6.7 million opening day box office earning.
Written by Shyamalan, the film will also star Saleka Syamalan, Hayley Mills and Allison Pill. Shyamalan also serves as producer on the project, alongside Ashwin Rajan and Marc Bienstock, with executive production from Steven Schneider. The director of photography is Sayombhu Mukdeeprom (Call Me by Your Name).
The production designer is Debbie de Villa (The Hating Game). It is edited by Noëmi Preiswerk and the music is by Herdĭs Stefănsdŏttir (Knock at the Cabin). The music supervisor is Susan Jacobs (Old); the costume designer is Caroline Duncan (Old). The casting is by Douglas Aibel (Asteroid City).
