Michael B. Jordan reunites with Ryan Coogler for thriller horror Sinners
Marking their fifth collaboration together, Michael B. Jordan and Black Panther director Ryan Coogler reunite for Warner Bros.' Sinners. Set for release on 7 March 2025, the centres the 1930’s Jim Crow era, shot on location in the New Orleans area.
The film welcomes back Coogler to his directorial helm for the first time since 2022’s Black Panther: Wakanda Forever. Jordan is no stranger to collaborating with Coogler, since their first time working together on the 2013 Fruitvale Station as well as the Creed franchise. Coogler’s production company Proximity Media will also be involved in the project along with Zinzi Coogler and Sev Ohanian.
Executive producers include Proximity’s Ludwig Göransson, Oscar winning composer for Oppenheimer, Rebecca Chi and Will Greenfield. Autumn Durald Arkapaw will serve as director of photography, with Oscar winning production designer Hannah Beachler, editor Michael P. Shawver and Oscar-winning costume designer Ruth E. Carter all joining the team.
The New Orleans backdrop will provide both integral aesthetic and emotional contributions to the film, with its deep roots in African American history. With much of the plot under wraps, the film’s description details a story of twin brothers, one played by Jordan, as they return to their hometown to leave their troubled lives behind, and start all over again, only to discover “that an even greater evil is waiting to welcome them back.”
The star-studded cast included Delroy Lindo (Da 5 Bloods, UnPrisoned), Jack O’Connell (Ferrari, Back to Black) and Hailee Steinfeld (True Grit, Dickinson, Sony’s animated Spider-Verse franchise). Wunmi Mosaku (Loki, Lovecraft Country), Jayme Lawson (The Woman King, MLK/X), Omar Benson Miller (The Last Days of Ptolemy Grey), Li Jun Li (Babylon), Lola Kirke (Gone Girl, Winning Time), plus newcomers Yao, Miles Caton and Peter Dreimanis.
