Arcane second and final season comes to Netflix
The second season and finale of League of Legends inspired Arcane is set for its Netflix return. Three years in the making, season 2 has spilled nothing ahead of its premiere except promising to answer all the questions formed at the cliffhanging conclusion of the first season. Season two will arrive in three acts, 9, 16, 23 November.
At the end of season one, viewers are caught between sibling and social rivalry. Vi, played by Hailey Steinfeld and her sister Jinx, played by Ella Purnell, find themselves headed down opposing paths, as the battle between Piltover and Zaun intensifies. Arcane’s construction of these complex and juxtaposing cities are just the beginning according to co-creator Christian Linke. After having worked with co-creator Alex Yee on the source material League of Legends (2009), the two were drawn to delving deeper into the story. Working alongside the team at Riot Games and Fortiche Animation, Arcane was brought to life.
“Arcane is just the beginning of our larger storytelling journey and partnership with the wonderful animation studio that is Fortiche Production,” said Linke during a League Dev Update. “From the very beginning, since we started working on this project, we had a very specific ending in mind, which means the story of Arcane wraps up with this second season. But Arcane is just the first of many stories that we want to tell in Runeterra.”
Fortiche Animation take lead on created the staggering animated visuals for the show, including the varying location and characters. The French creative production company utilise a unique graphic styling technique combining 2D and 3D media. Beyond the visuals, music is also a key driving force behind Arcane, from the show’s Imagine Dragon’s Enemy introduction to the recent music video featuring the vocals of Emmy Award-winning Sheryl Lee Ralph showcased in a sneak peek at Netflix’s fan event Geeked Week last month.
The animated series, based on the League of Legends game and one of Netflix’s most successful animated series ever, is created by Linke alongside Alex Yee, and executive produced by Linke, Marc Merrill and Brandon Beck. . The voicing cast include Steinfeld, Purnell (Jinx), Katie Leung (Caitlyn), Reed Shannon (Ekko), Amirah Vann (Sevika), Mick Wingert (Heimerdinger), Ellen Thomas (Ambessa), and Brett Tucker (Singed) among many others.
