Shinfield Studios joins FOCUS London as the 2024 Conference Sponsor

Berkshire based Shinfield Studios, one of the UK’s newest additions to its studio facility roster, will join FOCUS London 2024 as its conference sponsor. The state of the art space, completed in Spring of this year most recently contributed to the filming of 1980’s reboot You Bet starring Holly Willoughby and Stephen Mulhern. As the largest new studio in the UK, the 18 stage facility is a welcome addition to entice international projects to the country.

“As the largest new studio in the UK, we are growing brand awareness here and internationally,” commented Nick Smith, Joint Managing Director, Shinfield Studios (part of the Shadowbox Studios portfolio). “Being part of FOCUS aligns with our goals to attract productions to the UK as a filming destination and to Shinfield Studios.

Designed to meet the needs of modern production, Shinfield Studios is supported by the backbone of a team with decades of experience building an operating studios. With 18 stages, Shinfield is also home to two of the UK’s biggest measuring in at 41,000 sq. ft, fully air conditioned and sound proofed. The facility also included 38 workshops, a filming backlot exceeding nine acres, a s modern office space.

Completed in Spring 2024, construction of the studios used the downtime during the strike action in the US, and implications on the global screen industry to finalise details and stress test the facilities, enabling their readiness for an expected busier period to follow.

Studios are much more than their contribution to the screen industry, becoming fixtures of local communities, for the better and sometimes for the worse. To contend the potential for the latter outcome as mentioned, Shinfield Studios took the measures to ensure a smooth integration into the local Berkshire community.

In addition to employment and business opportunities, Shinfield have also funded a brand new cinema facility in the local community centre featuring 80 seats, cinema quality screens and acoustics. Tying the whole community together, the launch held this year saw the handing over of the cinema to be run by the local film club.

“We are also founding members of Screen Berkshire, alongside The University of Reading and Bedlam Film Productions,” adds Smith. “The group was brought together by social enterprise Resource Productions (who also run Screen Berkshire) and formally launched in autumn 2023. The partnership provides opportunities for work and training to build on the regional screen skills talent pool, improve diversity in the industry and support productions that are filming in the region. Screen Berkshire expects to train & upskill at least 2000 people each year.

As a new fixture in the local community, Shinfield Studios leads by example in the field of sustainability. Measures included following BREEAM excellent standards, an internationally recognised sustainability assessment method for planning infrastructure and buildings, welcoming an external consultant during the process, minimising waste, sourcing locally where possible, and reducing transportation of materials.

“Shinfield Studios has been designed to meet the highest standards of sustainability,” Smith adds. “We incorporated it into the heart of our operations to support productions in achieving their carbon reduction goals. We are an entirely electric site which includes the use of solar panels, alongside air source heat pumps and therma-controlled sound stages, to name just a few examples.”
