Apple TV+ comedy Bad Monkey secures season 2 green light
Apple TV+ has officially renewed its acclaimed comedy series Bad Monkey for a second season. The show, developed by award-winning executive producer Bill Lawrence and starring Vince Vaughn, has garnered significant praise since its debut. Based on Carl Hiaasen's New York Times bestselling novel, Bad Monkey follows Andrew Yancy (Vaughn), a former Miami police detective demoted to health inspector in the Florida Keys.

Bad Monkey captures the vibrant essence of South Florida and the Caribbean with its picturesque filming locations. Much of the show is set against the stunning backdrop of the Florida Keys, emphasising the region’s sun-soaked beaches, turquoise waters, and laid-back charm. Key West serves as a prominent filming spot, providing the authentic vibe of Yancy's quirky surroundings. Additionally, scenes were shot in Miami, known for its bustling cityscapes and art deco architecture, to highlight Yancy's past as a detective. For added tropical allure, parts of the series were filmed in the Bahamas, delivering lush, exotic visuals.
Bill Lawrence expressed his enthusiasm for continuing the series, stating, "I hope that people know that Carl Hiaasen is an idol of mine and an inspiration for me as a writer. To get to go on telling his story with Vince Vaughn and this great cast, at least the characters who are still alive, is very exciting. I’m very thankful to our partners at Apple TV+ and Warner Bros, as well as the entire team that helps bring this show to life."

Matt Cherniss, head of programming for Apple TV+, added, "Since 'Bad Monkey' first made its debut on Apple TV+, this highly entertaining series became an instant fan favourite. Led by the incomparable Vince Vaughn as Andrew Yancy, alongside a brilliant ensemble cast, we can’t wait for everyone to experience more hilarious, sun-soaked, beachy misadventures from the mind of Bill Lawrence as the temperature rises even further in the next chapter of this engrossing murder-mystery."
The first season has been described as "the surprise hit TV show of 2024" and "a must-watch for anyone looking for their next binge-worthy show." Vaughn's portrayal of Yancy has been highlighted as "an incredibly winning performance" in "a vehicle tailor-made" for the actor. The series has also been praised for its "stellar cast," "amazing soundtrack," and "laugh-out-loud moments."

The ensemble cast includes L. Scott Caldwell, Rob Delaney, Meredith Hagner, Natalie Martinez, Alex Moffat, Michelle Monaghan, Ronald Peet, and Jodie Turner-Smith. Special guest stars feature John Ortiz, Zach Braff, Ashley Nicole Black, Scott Glenn, and Charlotte Lawrence in her television debut.
Bad Monkey is produced by Warner Bros. Television and Doozer Productions, with executive producers Bill Lawrence, Jeff Ingold, Matt Tarses, Marcos Siega, Vince Vaughn, and Liza Katzer. This renewal continues the successful collaboration between Lawrence and Warner Bros. Television for Apple TV+, following series like Shrinking and the global phenomenon Ted Lasso.

The complete first season of Bad Monkey is available for streaming on Apple TV+. As of now, Apple Original films, documentaries, and series have received 535 wins and 2,450 award nominations, including multi-Emmy Award-winning comedy Ted Lasso and Oscar Best Picture winner CODA.
