Cameron Diaz and Jamie Foxx are Back in Action for Netflix

Making her return to the cinema screen, Cameron Diaz stars alongside Janie Foxx for Netflix’s Back in Action. The spy comedy released on 17 January made a splash, hitting 46.8 million views in the first three days of its arrival, the biggest opening since March 2022. As the suburban couple played by Diaz and Foxx unveil their secret spy identities, the flick takes a thrilling journey across a multitude of locations.

Diaz and Foxx are no strangers to working with eachother, first crossing paths for the 1999 sports drama Any Given Sunday from Olivia Stone, and reuniting once again for the modern day musical remake of Annie in 2014. Now 11 years later, Diaz partnered up once again with Foxx for Netflix family friendly fun flick Back in Action. Whilst also aptly named in regards to Diaz’s return to the screen, the project actually sees the two actors playing a suburban couple, parents to two children and seemingly ordinary, Foxx’s Matt and Diaz’s Emily are in fact former spies whose talents get put to use in both familial and professional circumstances.

Like in any spy film, our protagonists played by Foxx and Diaz jet set across the globe as their mission amps up. Filming across the UK occupied a significant portion of the production, including on location in London, Waddesdon Manor in Buckinghamshire, and utilising the facilities at Shepperton Studios. No strangers to action packed flicks, Atlanta, Georgia was a key destination for filming, with real life locations being used for the suburban life of the secret spy family, as well as studio space.

Seth Gordon, known for a number of projects including Horrible Bosses, Identity Thief and Baywatch, takes to the helm of the project written by himself and Brendan O’Brien. Gordon also serves as producer along with Peter Chernin, Jenno Topping, Sharla Sumpter Bridgett and Beau Bauman. Alongside Diaz and Foxx, the cast includes  Andrew Scott, Jamie Demetriou, Kyle Chandler, Glenn Close, McKenna Roberts, Rylan Jackson, Fola Evans-Akingbola, Robert Besta and Jude Mack. Back in Action is a Chernin Entertainment, Exhibit A and Good One Production, streaming now on Netflix.
