Adolescence brings all the suspense in new trailer

Netflix's latest British crime drama, Adolescence, explores the harrowing ordeal of a family whose 13-year-old son is accused of murder. The series, set to premiere on 13 March, 2025, is gaining attention for its one-shot filming technique and authentic Yorkshire locations.

The production team chose various locations across Yorkshire to create an authentic and immersive setting. South Kirkby was a key filming location, with the West Yorkshire town serving as the backdrop for the Miller family's home, reflecting the ordinary life suddenly disrupted by a shocking crime. The quiet suburban feel contrasts with the intense legal and emotional battles that unfold throughout the series.

South Elmsall, another Yorkshire town, provided key street scenes that contributed to the community-driven atmosphere of the series. The town's intimate layout enhances the sense of closeness and the ripple effects of the crime on the local residents.

In contrast, Sheffield leant its city urban landscape to pivotal moments involving police investigations and legal proceedings, adding realism to the storyline. Sheffield's blend of modern and historical settings helps to create a sense of place that is both familiar and unsettling for audiences.

Filming took place between July and October 2024, with the production team emphasising naturalistic settings to heighten the series' dramatic impact. The use of real locations rather than studio sets helps immerse viewers in the story, making the events feel more immediate and impactful.

Adolescence is helmed by director Philip Barantini, known for his work on Boiling Point. Uniquely, the series employs a bold one-shot filming technique, presenting each episode as a continuous, unbroken take to adding to the sense of real-time immersion.

The series is written by acclaimed screenwriter Jack Thorne and produced by Warp Films, Matriarch Productions, and Plan B Entertainment. The executive production team includes industry heavyweights such as Stephen Graham, Hannah Walters, Brad Pitt, and Jeremy Kleiner.

The cast features both established stars and fresh talent including Stephen Graham (Line of Duty) as Eddie Miller, the father of the accused boy, Ashley Walters (Top Boy) as Detective Inspector Bascombe, Erin Doherty (The Crown) as Briony Ariston, and Owen Cooper taking on the lead role as Jamie Miller, the 13-year-old at the centre of the case.
