Released on 13 February, the film continues the journey of Jones, portrayed by Renée Zellweger, as she navigates life as a single mother following the tragic loss of her husband, Mark Darcy. The film's charm is amplified by its carefully selected filming locations, which not only enhance the storytelling but also pay homage to the character's London roots.
Departing from the bustling Borough Market, which served as Bridget's home in earlier films, Mad About the Boy transitions to the serene and affluent neighbourhood of Hampstead in North London. This shift reflects Bridget's evolution into motherhood, providing a tranquil backdrop that mirrors her new life phase. Filming took place between May and August 2024, capturing the essence of Hampstead's leafy streets and historic charm.
Hampstead Heath, a vast expanse of greenery, plays a pivotal role in the film. It is here, atop Parliament Hill, that Bridget encounters her youthful love interest, Roxster, portrayed by Leo Woodall. The film also showcases several of Hampstead's iconic establishments, grounding the narrative in real, accessible locations. The Spaniards Inn, a historic 16th-century pub famed for its literary connections to Charles Dickens and John Keats also makes an appearance. Additionally, La Cage Imaginaire, a family-run French-Italian restaurant, serves as the venue for Bridget and Roxster's second date.
Bridget's professional life receives a modern update with scenes set at Moor House, an impressive glass-fronted office building in London's financial district. The sleek, contemporary architecture of Moor House contrasts with the homely warmth of Hampstead, visually representing the dual facets of Bridget's world.
The narrative extends beyond London, with pivotal scenes filmed in the picturesque Lake District. Thirlmere, specifically Steel End Road was selected for its breathtaking valley views.
