Paradise in Thailand for the production of White Lotus season 3
HBO’s The White Lotus is back, and this time, it’s bringing its signature mix of satire, scandal, and stunning scenery to the breathtaking shores of Thailand. Following the massive success of its first two seasons, the award-winning series is captivating audiences once again—this time with a new cast, a fresh storyline, and an exotic setting.
For its third installment, The White Lotus has guests staying at the luxurious Four Seasons Resort Koh Samui, a secluded paradise on the island’s northwestern coast. This lush retreat, known for its hillside villas, private infinity pools, and sweeping ocean views, is the perfect setting for the show’s signature blend of privilege and dysfunction.
But the Koh Samui resort is just the beginning. The show also showcases Anantara Mai Khao Phuket Villas, known for its serene lagoon setting and Thai-inspired spa, as well as Anantara Bophut Koh Samui Resort, which is serving as the face of the White Lotus hotel itself. In addition, the production is making use of Ta Khai at Rosewood Phuket, a rustic, open-air restaurant with a village-like atmosphere, and Wat Pu Khao Thong and Dusit Dhewa Cultural Center, locations that reflect Thailand’s deep spiritual traditions.
Mike White, the show’s creator and director, hinted that this season will explore themes of death, spirituality, and Eastern religion, adding a new layer of intrigue to the show’s already complex social commentary.
The tropical climate in Thailand—with its intense heat, humidity, and sudden downpours— poses its own set of challenges, requiring strategic scheduling, and with the series' filming beginning in February 2024, the cast and crew were sure to experience the countries hottest season.
Cultural sensitivity was also a top priority for production, given that some scenes were filmed at sacred Buddhist sites. To accommodate this, production worked closely with local officials to ensure respect for traditions and practices. Even small details, such as avoiding loud noises during prayer times, were carefully planned to maintain good relations with the Thai community.
If history is any indication, The White Lotus Season 3 will do for Thailand what previous seasons did for Hawaii and Sicily—send tourists flocking in droves. After the Sicily-based second season aired, online searches for the featured resorts skyrocketed, and Thai tourism officials are already expecting a similar boom.
With its hypnotic beaches, lavish resorts, and an atmosphere of both serenity and mystery, Thailand is set to become the next must-visit White Lotus destination. And for fans of the show, it is a chance to step inside the world of high society, scandal, and luxury.
