Prime Video's Picture This takes its love story across London
In the bustling heart of London, where historic charm meets modern vibrancy, Amazon Prime Video's latest romantic comedy, Picture This, unfolds a tale that resonates with both the heart and the city's rich tapestry. Released on 6 March, the film stars Simone Ashley as Pia, a struggling photographer navigating love and ambition, and Hero Fiennes Tiffin as Charlie, her enigmatic ex-boyfriend. The narrative is set against the backdrop of London's eclectic locales, each chosen to enhance the storytelling with authenticity and allure.
Picture This centers on Pia, who, during her sister's engagement party, receives an unexpected prophecy from a spiritual guru: she will find true love within her next five dates. This prediction sets Pia on a journey filled with humor, self-discovery, and the complexities of modern relationships. As her well-meaning family intervenes and her ex-boyfriend reappears, Pia must balance her career aspirations with the pursuit of love, all while navigating the vibrant streets of London. The film explores themes of empowerment, self-love, and the belief in destiny, offering a fresh perspective on the romantic comedy genre.
The filmmakers meticulously selected various locations across London and its environs to reflect the city's diverse character and to ground Pia's story in real, relatable settings. Locations included Potters Bar, Hertfordshire located just north of central London, providing an intimate setting that mirrors Pia's personal journey, Syon House, Brentford, Middlesex, serving as the venue for pivotal events in the film, Welwyn Garden City, Hertfordshire, and Woolwich, London.
The production of Picture This was helmed by director Prarthana Mohan, with a screenplay by Nikita Lalwani. The film is a British adaptation of the Australian movie Five Blind Dates, bringing a unique cultural fusion to the storyline. Simone Ashley, known for her role in Bridgerton, not only stars as Pia but also took on the role of producer, drawing inspiration from her love of '90s romantic comedies. She collaborated closely with producers Ben Pugh and Erica Steinberg to develop a script that emphasises empowerment and self-love, themes that resonate deeply with her.
Since its release, Picture This has garnered attention for its heartfelt storytelling and the chemistry between the lead actors. The film's authentic portrayal of modern romance, combined with its picturesque settings, offers viewers a delightful escape into a world where love and destiny intertwine. Critics have praised the film for its fresh take on the romantic comedy genre, noting its balance of humour and emotional depth. Picture This is now streaming on Amazon Prime Video, inviting audiences to embark on Pia's journey through love, life, and the enchanting locales of London.
