Netflix’s The Gentlemen Gears Up for a Grittier Season 2

Netflix's hit series The Gentlemen is officially returning for a second season, with the streamer announcing the start of filming yesterday. Building on the explosive events of season one, the next chapter promises a darker, more ambitious exploration of the British criminal underworld. With Theo James, Kaya Scodelario, and Vinnie Jones all returning, and Guy Ritchie once again steering the ship, this stylish gangster saga is ready to raise the stakes—both narratively and visually.

After captivating audiences earlier this year, The Gentlemen is officially back in business. Netflix has greenlit a second season of the crime drama, with cameras scheduled to start rolling in spring 2025. Loosely based on Guy Ritchie’s 2019 film of the same name, the series became a breakout hit for the streamer, pulling in more than 44 million viewers within its first month.

The story follows Eddie Horniman, played by Theo James, an upper-crust aristocrat who unexpectedly inherits a sprawling English estate—and along with it, a sophisticated cannabis empire run by the formidable Glass family. With season one leaving Eddie and savvy operator Susie Glass (Kaya Scodelario) on the cusp of consolidating their power, all eyes are now on how their uneasy partnership will evolve.

Season two is set to dig deeper into Eddie's moral transformation and the shifting dynamics of the underground empire he's reluctantly—and increasingly skillfully—helping to manage. James has teased a "bigger and darker" direction for the sophomore season, suggesting a more intense narrative as the show continues to blur the lines between noble duty and criminal ambition.

Behind the scenes, Guy Ritchie remains heavily involved as both director and co-writer, working alongside Matthew Read. Their creative vision helped define the show’s slick, stylish tone—one that blends classic Ritchie crime-caper elements with an aristocratic twist. Also returning is Daniel Ings as Eddie’s trouble-prone brother Freddy, while Vinnie Jones is confirmed to reprise his role as Geoff Seacombe, the estate’s stoic enforcer, after some early uncertainty about his involvement.

This season is also set to welcome new cast members Hugh Bonneville (I Came By, The Agency), Benjamin Clementine (Dune, Blitz), Benedetta Porcaroli (The Leopard, Amanda), Michele Morrone (Another Simple Favour, The Housemaid), Sergio Castellitto (The Star Maker, Conclave), Amra Mallassi (Dune: Part Two, Hijack), Tyler Conti (Tell Me Everything, Safe) and presenter Maya Jama.

Season one didn’t just turn heads with its plot—it was also a visual feast, thanks to a carefully curated selection of filming locations across the UK. Halstead Manor, the grand estate at the heart of the series, was brought to life using multiple stately homes, including Badminton House in Gloucestershire and Loseley Park in Surrey. The latter also doubled as the base for the Glass family's secret cannabis operation.

Knebworth House in Hertfordshire added another layer of aristocratic gravitas, playing host to scenes involving rival blue-blooded families. For urban grit, the production utilised several iconic London spots, including the Princess Victoria pub in Shepherd’s Bush, the Reform Club, and even the Tate Modern. Meanwhile, more down-to-earth locations like the Detling Diner in Maidstone and the Ashford Cattle Market helped round out the show’s sense of place, offering a dynamic contrast to the lush countryside settings.

This rich mix of heritage and grit is set to continue in the next instalment, although Netflix has yet to confirm whether new locations will be introduced. What’s clear, however, is that the next chapter will expand the world of The Gentlemen in ways that are both narratively and visually ambitious.

As production gears up, fans can expect more of what made the show a success: razor-sharp dialogue, morally complex characters, and an aesthetic that’s equal parts Mayfair and mafia. With a return to the leafy estates and dangerous backrooms of Britain's criminal elite, season two is shaping up to be not just a continuation, but an escalation.
