In a landmark announcement at the 78th Cannes International Film Festival, the Saudi Film Commission (SFC) introduced Jax Film Studios – a state-of-the-art production facility set to elevate the Kingdom’s status as a premier destination for global filmmaking.

Slated for completion in late 2025, Jax Film Studios will span over 7,000 square meters in Riyadh, offering two expansive 1,500 square meter soundstages, and one of the world’s most advanced virtual production volumes, powered by Sony’s latest screen technology. With this, Saudi Arabia enters the elite ranks of countries capable of hosting high-end, technically sophisticated film and television productions.

The new facility goes beyond technical infrastructure. It includes private cinema screening rooms, VIP lounges, dining areas, production prep spaces, and dedicated zones for meetings and receptions – all tailored to meet the high expectations of today’s creative professionals. Designed with international best practices, Jax Studios is intended to attract global productions while nurturing local talent.

“Jax Film Studios represents a cornerstone in our strategy to develop a world-class film infrastructure in Saudi Arabia,” said Abdullah Al-Qahtani, CEO of the Saudi Film Commission. “As we become one of the region’s premier production hubs, this facility is built to meet the highest international standards – empowering local creatives while attracting global talent.”

Strategically located in Riyadh’s Jax District – a creative and cultural hotspot – the complex provides direct access to five-star hotels, an international airport, and a growing network of production and post-production talent. Within a 20-minute radius, filmmakers will have access to all the resources necessary for a seamless production process, from casting to final cut.

Abduljalil Alnasser, General Manager of Sector Development and Investment Attraction at the SFC, emphasised the transformative potential of the new facility: “With Jax Film Studios, we are introducing one of the world’s most advanced and largest virtual production stages, powered by Sony’s latest innovations, unlocking limitless creative possibilities.”

The unveiling at Cannes underscores Saudi Arabia’s intent to align itself with the global entertainment industry. Through the Saudi Pavilion, the Film Commission is engaging with filmmakers, producers, and media leaders from around the world. Alongside the Commission, a broad delegation from across Saudi Arabia’s creative industries is in attendance to foster partnerships, promote content, and attract international co-productions.

Jax Film Studios is a key component of Saudi Arabia’s broader strategy to develop a vibrant, export-ready media sector. Since its establishment in 2020, the Saudi Film Commission has been laying the groundwork for a robust film industry through infrastructure development, regulatory support, and talent cultivation. By backing large-scale projects like Jax, the Kingdom signals its long-term commitment to becoming a globally competitive production destination.

As international attention turns increasingly toward the Middle East’s emerging film markets, Saudi Arabia is positioning itself as a serious contender – with Jax Film Studios leading the charge. The message from Riyadh is clear: the Kingdom is ready for the global spotlight.
