Nicolas Winding Refn’s Too Old To Die Young heads to New Mexico

After shooting over a three-month period in Los Angeles, production for Nicolas Winding Refn’s Amazon series, Too Old To Die Young, has shifted to AlbuquerqueNew Mexico. Production initially began in November 2017 in LA and is expected to last for a total of 10 months. This will mark the first time that Refn has filmed in New Mexico, having shot most of his recent work exclusively in LA.

Too Old To Die Young will follow a grieving police officer who has to form an unlikely alliance after being thrust into a criminal underworld filled with samurai, the Yakuza, assassins and the Russian mafia.

Interestingly, Refn has decided to live stream various segments of the production, giving fans an insight into the process of shooting on location. The project will star several high-profile actors including Miles Teller, Jenna Malone and William Baldwin.

New Mexico provides a tax credit of up to 30% for productions that shoot within the state. There is no minimum spend required to access the incentive but productions must incur at least one shoot day. Location Manager Todd Christensen recently detailed to TLG his experience of doubling New Mexico for Afghanistan on 12 Strong.

Production is currently underway on another Amazon Studios project in South Africa – an adaptation of Neil Gaiman and Terry Pratchett’s Good Omens.
