Fast and Furious wraps production after five month shoot

Fast and Furious 9 has wrapped shooting after a five month shoot after a shoot taking place in the UK, Thailand and central Asia and the US. 

Director Justin Lin (True Detective, Star Trek Beyond) made the announcement via twitter thanking crew in London, Edinburgh, Tbilisi in Georiga, Phuket and Krabi in Thailand, and Los Angeles. Lin who has previously directed 2006’s Fast & Furious: Tokyo Drift, 2009’s Fast & Furious and 2013’s Fast & Furious 6 noted that the upcoming is the most ambitious film of the series to date. 

Local crew are integral to such large productions when shooting on location. For example, crew working on the shoot in Edinburgh, which started in June, included 375 local hires out of nearly eight hundred crew members. According to Film Edinburgh, the shoot was one of the largest and most complex shoots to have filmed in the historic Old and New Towns of Edinburgh.

As well as being one of the most successful franchises at the box office, grossing USD5.5 billion worldwide as a whole. The Universal Pictures franchise is particularly international when it comes to filming too. The United Arab Emirates (pictured above), Iceland (pictured left) and Brazil have all hosted major shoots for the franchise in the past. 2019 spin off Hobbs & Shaw filmed in the UK and Glasgow. 

All countries involved in the production offer production incentives. The UK’s 25% cash rebate, Thailand provides a 15 - 20% cash rebate , Georgia has a 20 - 25% cash rebate for features spending at least USD250,000 , and California has 25% tax credit for feature films.
