The Witcher set to resume UK filming in August

Netflix hit The Witcher is set to resume filming in the UK on August 17. The second season of the fantasy series had to pause filming due to Covid-19 in March.

The production is set to resume filming in Arborfield Studios and the UK abiding by the guidelines for filming during Covid-19.

The first season, starring Henry Cavill attracted over 76 million households and was one of Netflix's biggest hits. The streamer announced the news to fans in a tweet reading: “I’m dusting off my lute and quill, I have some news, some mead to spill: After all the months we’ve been apart It’s time for production to restart. The Witcher and his bard – who’s flawless, Will reunite on set 17 August”.

In an interview with The Wrap, showrunner Lauren Hissrich stated that production meetings ahead of the restart have revolved around changes to the script and filming process that keeping cast and crew safe will involve. “A lot of it is just about flexibility, not just in the planning phases by when we get back on sets…the government may say it’s okay to do X or Y but an actor may say they don’t feel comfortable doing that. And that’s always going to be our first concern”.

Although based in the UK, the first season of The Witcher carried out filming across Europe including Spain, Hungary and Poland.

Universal’s Jurassic World: Dominion is set to resume filming ahead of The Witcher, with filming due to begin again at Pinewood Studios on July 6 after two weeks of pre-production. Lead actors Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas have already begun a two-week quarantine after flying to the UK ahead of the shoot.
