Advertising work consisting of still photography and commercials represents 52% of local permit requests. Scripted, unscripted and web-based TV content takes up 18% of the permit activity followed by music video production at 11%.

The agency expects September to see a pick-up in scripted television production shooting in LA. “As an essential contributor to the Greater Los Angeles economy, film production responsibly returning to our communities is a welcome sight. Of course, as Governor Newsom and public health experts remind us, COVID-19 will be with us for a long time. We are therefore mindful of the public health orders governing current filming practices and grateful for filmmakers’ conscientious embrace of crew and community safety on all permitted productions” says Paul Audley of FilmL.A.

Local authorities began processing film permits from June 15 and production had resumed by June 19. After seeing a steep increase in applications in mid-August overall activity has stabilized to around 44% of usual summer conditions with twenty-seven applications made per day.

All sixteen of the juristictions covered by FilmL.A. are currently open to filming and six of the school districts have also reopened for filming and base cam parking.
